Most people use Microsoft FrontPage or Dreamweaver or just about any WYSIWYG editor to create their websites. Me? I'm a masochist, and this entire site has been hand-coded in Notepad (but please don't look at the code, it's all patched together hideously, and I really do know better). To do that, you need to know your HTML rather well. There are two ways to learn, and you kind of need both. The first is to View Source on any website you really like the design of -- it will teach you what code leads to what results, and what it is you like. The second is to find a few really helpful archives of HTML/CSS reference. I don't use that many, but here are the links to the ones I do use.
